Loving the skin I am in

As a parent when we look at our child sometimes we see ourselves. After having a conversation with an African American woman who has dark skin and short hair, she confessed that she married her husband because he was white, I now know that she did not want to see her self in her child. When we talk about child development we have to remember to encourage children and remind them of how beautiful they are no matter what they look like. This mother purposely married a man so that her children would have fair skin and long hair. Where did the parents go wrong? Whose fault is this? What is your opinion?
